A Common Goal

Our founder’s vision of excellence with a focus on the end-user permeates through all we do.

About Us

D3A are proud to be a veteran owned and operated business. We exist to support both sides of the customer to supplier relationship with a focus on the end-user and their requirements. The whole D3A team are united in our purpose – to ensure that the end-user gets the best possible equipment and training to prepare them effectively for their task.

‘Optimise capability through training and expertise’

In a highly competitive industry, discretion is paramount. At D3A we take our client confidentiality seriously and we believe in conducting business and customer relations with the utmost integrity. Our dedicated and cohesive team is not burdened by a complicated corporate structure which may otherwise limit the speed of response to change. We maintain agility in our approach and we are determined to deliver the most effective level of service possible, in accordance with customer requirement and end-user need.

As a committed signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, most of our team are former Officers and Senior Non-commissioned Officers with typically more than 20 years of service. Many maintain on-going Reservist commitments and together combine a rich pedigree drawn from a wide spectrum of UK military backgrounds and specialist skillsets. Our diverse team is supported by a broad network of affiliates.

Always keen to explore effective team-based working relationships, D3A are equally comfortable as lead prime contractor, partner or collaborator as determined by the project scope.

From the outset on forming D3A Craig has had a clear goal of what role and function the company needs to undertake. After seeing the frustrations of both the Military and the Military Industry from both sides, he saw an opportunity to bridge the gap. His goal is in ensuring the forward most soldier receives the equipment that is fit for the purpose, and the very best training that prepares them effectively for the task. A major part of him achieving this was to simultaneously create a working environment where fellow veterans have a sense of belonging and a work life balance. The D3A team is a testament to this personal endeavour.

Craig spent 27 years in the British Military, the first 16 years in the Royal Marines and the latter half in the Special Boat Service of UK Special Forces. Attending many career and leadership courses finishing in the top 5% of all that he attended. Always regarded as an exceptional Instructor and Leader by his cohort and more importantly by his team and subordinates.

Craig retired from the UK Special Forces in 2017 after 27 years of decorated service, whilst in service received by the order of the Queen Bravery and Gallantry awards. His judgement, operational knowledge and experience coupled with his instructional ability has been highlighted throughout his service and into the subsequent Military Industry he ventured into.

Craig and his family live in Dorset where they enjoy spending time paddle boarding on the water and walking in the hills. Craig is an avid cyclist, ensuring that his working week always allows for time on the bike, often for charitable causes.

Mark has been part of the D3A team since the company was established; first as an affiliate providing subject matter expertise in Close Air Support and Air Land Integration, and now permanently overseeing day-to-day operations with a focus on the management of key contract delivery for training and simulation customers. As a proud 20 year veteran of the Royal Air Force, Mark’s experiences as a frontline Tornado Weapons Systems Officer and then Programme Director in the Typhoon Test & Evaluation programme were coupled with a high-profile secondment into the UK Commando Brigade Headquarters as the principal Air Adviser.  Recognised for exceptional service on the 2017 Operational Honours List, he served on operations around the globe and cemented himself as a true proponent of air power and a joint fires specialist in the land, littoral and air environments. Mark’s professional acumen extends to the management of safety and risk through the application of engaged organisational cultures, and he consults on the psychology of Error Management and Human Factors in the defence and aerospace sectors.

A proud Scotsman, Mark lives with his partner and children in west Norfolk, having first established roots in the county during his military service. In his spare time, he keeps fit by running with his dog, Herbie, a German Shorthaired Pointer, and spends as much time as possible in the great outdoors with his kids. Mark is a mental health advocate and enjoys helping others understand the importance of self-awareness in the management of good mental wellbeing.

It was here that he excelled and showed flair for realising the benefits of synthetic training delivery methods, quickly taking on roles of lead Instructor and Simulation Programme Manager. The role also included working with industry partners to innovate new ways of training using the most current technology.

Mark Sutherington joined D3A at the beginning of 2020 having completed 24 years’ exemplary service in the British Army. As a highly experienced Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Instructor and Evaluator, his wealth of specialist knowledge in Air Land Integration and Close Air Support is now crucial in the development of training and simulation solutions across the D3A customer base and service offering.

During his military career, Mark served with the 2nd  Battalion The Royal Anglian Regt and 7th  Parachute Regt Royal Horse Artillery.
